Trixie’s Bookshelf: Books by Mario Vargas Llosa

It was just announced that Mario Vargas Llosa won this year’s Nobel Prize for literature. In addition to writing, Vargas Llosa ran for president of Peru in 1990 and is also famous for punching out the 1982 Nobel Prize for literature winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez! We have two of his books here at the library, The Way to Paradise and The Bad Girl. (The latter is not about me!)

Mark Twain

Did you know Mark Twain will be here in Independence? Yep, Saturday November 13 at 7:00 in the Inge Theater! Tickets are $15.00 and include a reception with Mark Twain. There will also be a drawing for a stay at a Bed & Breakfast in Hannibal, MO.

Hey…didn’t Mark Twain die a long time ago? Is he one of the ghosts haunting the library? Oh, ok, Mr. Blinn is telling me that this is a presentation starring Richard Garey from Hannibal, Mo. Make sure to buy a ticket since proceeds benefit the Historical Museum and the Friends of the Library!
